And, emerging creatives are invited to enter their short films and animations in this story-rich rural event.
Filmmakers have the chance to win the first prize of $10,000 and the coveted Bluey Award in the open category.
Films can be of any genre or theme but, when looking for inspiration, stories that explore aspects of rural life are encouraged.
High school students can also get a slice of the Bluey action with the Student Bluey award winning $3000 and a laptop computer.
Muswellbrook Shire mayor Martin Rush said council was looking forward to seeing what aspiring filmmakers brought to the table this year.
"The Blue Heeler Film Festival celebrates the creative talent our region has to offer," he explained.
"It's a fun night where our communities come together to share stories and enjoy the entertainment the festival has to offer.
"Council thanks sponsors Bengalla Mining Company and Harvey Norman Muswellbrook for their continuing support of the Blue Heeler Film Festival."
With free entry for all, the festival will take place on October 19 from 6pm until 9pm at the outdoor area at the Upper Hunter Innovation Precinct, adjacent to the Muswellbrook Library, Lower Hill Street.
Whether you are coming from Newcastle, the Hunter region or beyond, the event will be a great night of watching movies under the stars, entertainment and local food and drink stalls for everyone to enjoy.
Film submissions are open until October 6.
