However, Muswellbrook's Eve Howard got that honour at the recent School Sport Australia 12 Years Football tournament, and was instrumental in helping the side finish runners up.
It's been an outstanding year for the centre-back, who was recently named player's player in the 12 Girls Emerging Jets team.
The national competition, which was held in Canberra in late August, saw Howard's side play against Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales invitational team, Australian Capital Territory, Queensland and Western Australia.
Out of those, they only lost to the latter, and were held to a draw against their northern neighbours, who were eventually crowned champions.
Ever the tough competitor, she said that facing up against the best of the best from around the country was one of the best aspects of the tournament from her perspective.
"Getting the silver medal and getting to play the best players from the other states [was a highlight]," she said.
"I was excited and proud to have been selected."
She revealed it was the way the group of players gelled and gained an understanding of each other that allowed them to perform so well and pick up second place.
It will come as no surprise to see that Howard has been offered a spot on the under 13s Emerging Jets squad next year.
She also said it was a good feeling to receive the aforementioned recognition for her efforts throughout the season.
"It felt nice to know that my teammates thought I deserved this award," she stated.
"It means a lot coming from the players."
Despite being incredibly difficult to break into due to their success, the Matildas are the end goal for the youngster.
While the likes of the brilliant Sam Kerr are dominating the headlines now, it could be Howard receiving the plaudits in a few years' time.
