ONE of Muswellbrook's finest young netballers, Illuka Norman, has enjoyed a stellar 2019 season.

Among her greatest achievements was a trip to Narellan, just east of Campbelltown for the Netball NSW Senior State Titles, where she played against the likes of Nelson Bay, Shoalhaven, Tamworth and Inverell.

Norman took part in the under 15s division three category, where Muswellbrook performed admirably to finish in 11th place out of 19 sides from across the state.

At just 15 years of age, her efforts haven't gone unnoticed by long-serving Hunter MP Joel Fitzgibbon, who included her as part of the recent round of Local Sporting Champion grants.

Just 50 young athletes across the electorate were chosen, which displays the high quality of Norman's performance.

She was appreciative for the assistance, worth $550, which was given to help cover the cost of her previously mentioned trip to south-western Sydney.

"I'm just grateful and it's really good to be selected," she said.

She could have used that quote for a couple of questions, as she noted her promotion to the representative side as one of her highlights of the year.

"Just being able to be selected in a rep team and be representing your home town is great," she said.

"It's just really good being out there and having fun with everyone and all of your friends."

The teenager was set for netball greatness from birth, divulging that her mother, grandmother and sister have all played the sport.

Her mum, Karlie, said she was thrilled her daughter was pushing herself and displaying her ability at a higher level.

"It's great, it's really important that the kids are active and it's a sport that she has loved to play, and we're happy to support her wherever we can," she said.
