The latest addition is the Platypus Walk, which follows along Muscle Creek, past Olympic Park and to a newly formed picnic area.
It was officially opened on Thursday, December 5, with mayor Martin Rush, deputy mayor Rod Scholes and sustainability officers Mick Brady and Tracy Ward on hand to help with the ceremony.
The walk begins on Bell Street, on the south-west side of Olympic Park, and wraps around the perimeter of the ground before shooting off into the picturesque wetlands.
Mr Brady and Councillor Rush spoke about the importance of having access to our local waterways, with the former stating they needed to be celebrated.
"You wouldn't want to go swimming or fishing or boating in a polluted and not very nice water way, so as we start to improve those sorts of things and reduce litter and the amount of weeds then hopefully people will want to do things in the creek that are fun," he said.
Having been in the works for approximately a year, there are more plans to create walkways and better access to the creek.
"It's called the Muswellbrook Urban Riparian Masterplan, it's a pretty cool plan I reckon to put more walking tracks and things like that around the town," said Mr Brady.
Cr Rush made a speech at the event, and placed emphasis on MSC's intention to make the area an asset for the town.
