The Strikers posted 5-186 after being sent in on Sunday afternoon in Launceston, with skipper Head's 40-ball knock the headline act.
The Test No.6, who hasn't played limited-overs cricket for Australia since late 2018, clubbed six sixes and five fours.
He was dropped on 21 by import David Miller at deep square in the eighth over, one of two simple chances shelled by a sloppy Hobart.
Head made them pay and took a particular liking to offspinner Clive Rose, who he launched for two maximums in three balls in the 13th over before holing out on the leg side boundary.
Head shared a 97-run stand with Jono Wells (45 not out from 35 balls) after Adelaide fell to 2-24 in the fifth over.
Hurricanes quick Scott Boland (2-26 from four overs) did the early damage, picking up two wickets within the powerplay including a sharp one-handed caught-and-bowled to remove opener Jake Weatherald (five).
Weatherald had been dropped on two by Caleb Jewell at mid-on but it didn't cost Hobart much on the scoreboard.
The seventh-placed Hobart need a win to keep their slim finals hopes alive, while a Strikers victory will push them into second position on the ladder.
