But, the young Rams still had plenty to celebrate with the under-13 boys and under-15 girls tackle teams claiming premierships, and the under-17 women finishing runners up.
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic played havoc with numerous Upper Hunter sporting comps in 2020.
However, thanks to the hard work of the MDJRLFC committee - and many volunteers - junior league went ahead in Muswellbrook.
The code also received a timely boost mid-week when NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard allowed parents and family members to attend grand finals on Saturday, much to the delight of the youngsters donning the "Blue and Gold".
Despite that, spectators were reminded of the need to maintain 1.5m social distancing and to observe the COVID-19 safe convention of one person per 4 square metres.
The Rams' under-13s began proceedings with a 22-0 victory over Macquarie at Morpeth Oval.
"It was an amazing team effort," president Johnny Marco said.
"The boys went through the year undefeated, which is a credit to their coach Al Baker.
"They got beat in the final after the bell last season.
"So, this result will erase that heartache a bit."
Baker's Midas touch continued with the under-15 girls tackle squad.
His talented Ramettes knocked over Raymond Terrace 12-8.
Despite losing captain Isla Johnston and second-rower Jessica Foreman to injury, the depth of the group shone on the big stage when it mattered.
Gifted Evie Jones claimed the player of the match honours.
Unfortunately, the under-17 women's outfit went down 20-6 to West Newcastle for the second consecutive year.
But, all members of the Gary "Bomber" Jones-coached side can be well-pleased with their efforts.
Struggling for numbers just weeks before the competition's kick-off, in July, the Ramettes overcame the odds to reach the decider.
