This Saturday ,February 20, instead of looking to the skies we will be watching the road, as the Mirage A3-44 jetfighter heads up the New England Highway on the back of a truck (escorted by police) to find its new hangar at Scone Regional Airport.

The public is invited you to come and capture the celebrations on Saturday from 5.30am - 9am at the Scone Regional Airport,Bunnan Rd, Scone.
Gates open at 5.30am, the warbird is expected to arrive at 6am. Attendees will be able to get upclose and take photos with the warbirds. There will also be a barbecue breakfast and drinks available to purchase at the Scone Aero Club.
Warbirds are very much a part of living history and this particular Mirage, built in 1966 is widely regarded as one of the best fighter aircraft of its time and is still the fastest fighter aircraft ever used by the RAAF.
The Mirage will join the Macchi at the Airport and the two planes will be restored by volunteers and become part of the Warbird Visitor Attraction. The planes have been donated to the not-for-profit Hunter Fighter Collection, who have loaned them to Upper Hunter Shire Council . Unlike the many working warbirds that will also feature - and fly - these two will stay on the ground on display.
The Scone Warbird Visitor Attraction is due to be opened in December this year, one part of a bigger $23.5M airport upgrade made possible thanks to grants from the NSW and Australian Governments to ensure the long term viability of the airport. The Scone Warbird Visitor Attraction will display Australian Flying Corps/RAAF aircraft, Trainers and Fighters from WWI to the present day and will include educational aviation displays, flight simulators, historic footage and offer joy flights.
