The Broadlands Muswellbrook development will offer one, two and two-bedroom plus study single level homes in a resort-style community adjacent to the Muswellbrook golf club.
The facility features a communal bowling green, indoor heated pool, a BBQ pavilion and a 'Club House' which will act as a centrepiece for the community with direct access to the golf course.
Nicholas Collishaw, the director of the development company behind the Broadlands site, Lincoln Place, praised Muswellbrook Shire Council for its vision in approving the project.
"It takes a council with great vision to step outside the norm, and here today we see the rewards of being brave, recognising change and recognising a changing demographic" Mr Collishaw said.
"Broadlands was approved by the council in its current form back in 2019, well ahead of today's housing trends.
"The NSW government has only just released its regional housing strategy with the objective of providing better and greater housing choice in the right locations and here we are today delivering on that housing strategy."
Muswellbrook Mayor Rod Scholes was present for the official opening, and said the development was well suited to the changing demographics of the Muswellbrook region.
"This is exactly what this town needs, we're an ageing population of coal miners wishing to downsize and empty nesters," Mr Scholes said.
"Muswellbrook has a lot to offer, we're close but we're away from the main hustle and bustle of the Lower Hunter.
"We're not that far from Newcastle medical specialists and the state government at the last election promised $45 million towards our hospital, and Muswellbrook as a whole has everything you need."
Tracey Walters was one of the first to move into the Broadlands Muswellbrook development in February 2021 and says she moved from Cessnock to be closer to her son and his family.
"It's been really lovely living in Muswellbrook, I love being close to the country and can't wait to use the pool and the facilities here," Ms Walters said.
