Celia Pavey certainly found her voice last Friday, holding hundreds spellbound as she performed in front of a grateful home crowd in Forbes. The Voice grand finalist gave a free concert to more than a thousand fans at Victoria Park, performing all of her hits from Win TV’s national talent quest. Celia gave her own unique slant to songs by folk, pop and country artists including her idol Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Dolly Parton and Christina Perri, while also performing ‘Candle in the Night’, a song she wrote while she was growing up in Forbes. Celia had to abandon her first take of the new song, originally written and performed by Ellie Goulding, but soon regained her composure and gave the audience a near-perfect rendition the second time around. Forbes Mayor Ron Penny, whose suggestion it was to host the homecoming concert, said he was thrilled with the community response. “Just fantastic,” he said, looking over the Friday afternoon crowd. “I don’t know how many are here, but whatever it is, it’s a lot of people.” Mayor Penny said the community was extremely proud of Celia, who moved to Sydney last year to pursue a career in music. “To be among the last four standing [on The Voice] and the last female who was coached by the only Australian coach, Delta Goodrem, she did Forbes proud,” Cr Penny said. Red Bend Catholic College deputy principal Stephen Dwyer said the concert was a satisfying moment for the school community. He said Celia’s fellow students, teachers and other college staff had watched her talent grow during her time at the Marist Bros school. “Throughout her time at school she performed many times – at concerts, musical items at assembly – and it was such a pleasure to watch her develop her talent,” Mr Dwyer said. Mr Dwyer said Celia was also a pleasure to teach and he thought she would appreciate the support she received from back home. “All the support she had from the students, staff and the whole community was just fantastic.” MORE: VIDEO: Celia Pavey performs on local radio Local fans interview Celia Pavey
