Forty-eight entrants will keep the courts buzzing on Monday and Tuesday nights for the next few months and there'll be plenty of new faces to welcome with thirteen players new to the club or missing out on comp last year.
Looking forward to watching the new players improve over the weeks while working out the rules of the game and the scoring and umpiring side of the sport but thankfully there'll be plenty of experienced players, team members and committee members to guide them along so everyone gets the best experience of playing this great game of squash.
Calling all juniors to come along this Sunday at 10am to join up for a junior squash competition starting Sunday 18th February.
There'll be activities, coaching and grading games so that players can be graded into teams for the competition with modified rules for the beginners. The school holidays saw up to 20 children learn the basics and can now put it to use with new players welcome at any time to come along and enjoy themselves.
All equipment is provided, and cost is just $5 per child each week with the Squash Club registered to accept the new Active and Creative Kids vouchers. Anyone who can't make every week never fear, someone will fill in for you on the day.
Saturday Afternoon Social Hit
Seventeen players gathered for a great afternoon of squash, and it was pleasing to see up to six new players take the court to find out how much fun squash can be.
Sebastian "I'm new to the game" Angelillo proceeded to run and hit like a professional before agreeing to join the comp (watch out Tuesday night) while Hayley "haven't played for years" Wear showed all the skill and technique of a regular player although she forgot to tell her shoulder to take it easy.
Donna "hit 'n' spin" Murdoch focused on watching the ball while Paul "rock 'n' roll" Watson focused on chasing the ball with plenty of games for everyone to enjoy the afternoon.
Tuesday Night Social Hit
Twelve players made the most of their last Tuesday before the Autumn Night competition begins and were working on running, breathing, and swinging (not necessarily in that order) to be at their best next week. Belinda "miles to go" Stephens and Scott "service due" McCartney kept the crowd entertained with some wonderful shots down the wall and even more wonderful returns off the wall as both ran themselves ragged in a great prelude of what to expect for the rest of the comp. Jakub "I can do this all day" Vitek and Mick "make him stop" Howard also enjoyed plenty of running and stepping around each other while being reminded about the use of the LET call for safety's sake.
See you on the courts.
